Look No Further

By now, you might have heard how J. Crew is singing a sweeter tune this season, and hitting impressive high notes with its first men's-only store in the city, some clever collaborations, and improved manufacturing techniques.

Still, after visiting a few locales over the weekend, we're prepared to say the label's overhaul is actually being under-hyped, that the quality and execution of its fall '08 line sets it apart from any rival, and that if we could only shop one brand this fall -- deep breadth -- we'd indeed choose J. Crew.

From what we hear, the secret--along with a meticulous attention to detail--is the label's use of high-end materials from the likes of English textile mill Thomas Mason--known for crafting premier shirting from Italian cotton since 1796--and oiled cotton from the British Millerain Company. (To cut down on costs, J. Crew is producing the clothes itself.) As a result, the stuff just fits and feels like a dream.

Along with the above British Millerain oilcloth double-breasted Anchor peacoat for $300, here are just a few of this season's classics:

British Millerain oilcloth field jackets for $200 -

Sutherland trench coats for $225 -

Solid secret-wash button-downs for $64 -

Vintage chambray work shirts for $98 -

Thomas Mason fabric shirts for $125 -

Solid cotton-cashmere cardigans for $75 -

G Shawl-collar fleeces for $70 -
