God Bless The Swiss

Thursday and Friday, the Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18th Street is hosting a Swiss watch sale, featuring 50-80% off Longines' (pictured), Rado's, Hamilton's, Tissot's, and Swatch's, among other makers. Good deals on nice watches tend to draw crowds. Consider yourselves warned.

***Update: One reader brings word: "Pretty good deals Tissot automatics for 3 bones. Longine's at $600-$1k from $2kplus. they're replenishing stock. Downers: 4 registers for about a hundred plus paying customers. about 300 lookers making for a very crowded setup. not a lunchtime stop given the waits."***

Kill Two Birds...

At 12 noon today, get to Gilt.com for sales on Milus Swiss watches and Cole Haan shoes. (We have fond memories of the first Air loafers to come out of the now long-standing partnership between Haan and Nike. Ten years later, they're still a smart choice for urban pavement pounding.) 'The More You Spend...' Dept.

Returning to the Tourneau sale on Monday, we were pleasantly surprised to find no lines or crowds, and a nice selection of watches remaining. People actually waited four hours to get into this event on Saturday.
Through Thursday, you can just stroll in and find a broad selection of top brands at 50% off, and Tourneau brand watches at 70% off. Re-sale watches are 20% off -- which comes out to about 70% off their original retail prices. Still, if you go expecting to find a particular make & model, you're bound to leave disappointed.
For a mere $12 K, you can save $12 K (!) and go home with this solid gold Cartier -

Supply & Demand

Got three or four hours to kill on this stormy Saturday? Well, there's the Colette x Gap pop-up store opening on 5th & 54th. Or, on 33rd & 8th, Tourneau is taking 50% off much of its stock, excluding Rolex's and Patek Philippe's.

Expect to find shorter lines--but much slimmer pickings--at the Tourneau sale through Thursday. ***CREDIT CARDS ONLY - NO CASH***

Good Times

Valet. magazine asks whether the Timex Perpetual Calendar is the perfect watch. And it is hard to argue with an American classic for just $70.

Still, several years after the fact, we stand behind our $500 investment in the automatic Le Locle from Swiss watchmaker Tissot. It possesses a certain je ne sais quoi the Timex lacks, which comes in very handy on nice occasions:
If we did invest in a Timex, we'd throw down $35 for this sweet faux-gold piece:
