The Anti-Icon
The Rag & Bone coat featured in our last post brought to mind the character of Marcel -- a young grilled-out gangster who Catherine Deneuve’s character gets mixed up with in the French film Belle De Jour. Deneuve plays Séverine Serizy, a wealthy young housewife who is lured into high-end prostitution with what Roger Ebert would call “disastrous results.” Because of director Luis Buñuel’s exquisite vision, and the fact that Yves Saint Laurent dressed Deneuve for the film, it’s a true style classic.
