Pomp

This is just a brilliant story from The Post's wire service about Nils Olav, a king penguin from the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland who was just knighted “for his service as the honorary colonel-in-chief to Norway’s elite King’s Guard.” [NY Post]

From the Post’s highly-amusing account of the knighthood ceremony: “As he waddled out of his enclosure, Nils - the third in a line of king-penguin mascots to the Guard since 1972 - then reviewed the lined-up troops, periodically stopping to crane his neck and inspect the soldiers' crisp uniforms as they stood at attention.

“British Maj. Gen. Euan Loudon knighted the bird on behalf of Norway's King Harald V by tapping Nils on each shoulder with the king's sword.”

Sir Niles, We solute you.
