Backtracking a bit, we came across this story on Saks' big plans for men's wear, accessories, and shoes. It supports earlier reports that men's wear is holding up better than women's wear during this down economy. [DNR via We Are The Market]
Whether this perception, and retailer's corresponding efforts, is good or bad for the male shopper remains to be seen. Attempts by high-end retailers and brands to lure men in the late 90s failed because of a lack of understanding on both sides... which left many guys broke and looking ridiculous. Hopefully, Saks' "newly revamped men's wear team" is giving more thought to men, how they approach the shopping experience, and what they expect to get out of it.
