Word is that Bergdorf's will officially increase 3rd Floor markdowns to 60% on Tuesday, while select 1st Floor stock will be marked down by 30%. Ask nicely, though, and we're told they'll honor the new markdowns now. Online, find up to 40% off designer labels.
On the shortlist of wardrobe staples every man must own -- along with a black or navy two-button peak-lapel suit; a solid cashmere v-neck; a pair of A.P.C. New Standard's; etc. -- Barbour jackets rank near the top. As the jackets only improve with age, eBay and eBay UK remain totally legitimate resources. If you prefer something off the rack, there's Peter Elliot's Barbour shop uptown, which, through Christmas Day, will take 25% off a jacket of your choosing in exchange for a used coat capable of keeping a homeless person warm through the winter. Expect 50% markdowns in January, but a store clerk promised us that stock will be slight. At Bergdorf's, meanwhile, a clerk just told us to expect 30% markdowns perhaps by next week.

Selection is typically sparse, and, considering this sale is scheduled to go just 4 hours, we expect a similar showing this time around. New York Times photog-about-town Bill Cunningham has us take a look at some fall men’s wear before the winter coats come out and cover it all up. “Men, you know, are really stubborn,” says the preternaturally charming Cunningham. “They have their imagery, and that’s it! Don’t tamper with it, and don’t call it fashion! It is style.” Before going over several seasonal trends, Cunningham notes, “Men are involved in classic cuts of clothes to the body if they’re going to spend big money, or there are other men who (have) kind of given a kick to the classics,” later adding, “Dress-down Friday … is slowly receding, and a new generation is coming in and experimenting with dressing up.” Here's another priceless Cunningham series. 
Tuesday through Thursday, 12/15-12/17, the makers of Mackage are hosting a holiday sale featuring unspecified markdowns -- at least 50% -- on their unique brand of outerwear. So, GQ just sent a few editors shopping -- a novelty we can appreciate on several levels. First, it's instructive to see what these well-informed underlings would do with a little extra scratch. It's also rare to see GQ humbling itself enough to actually shop, or even admit that style doesn't form through osmosis, or that smart wardrobes don't appear out of thin air. There's still no mention of the word "sale" -- and nearly every product featured can be had for a fraction of its retail price -- but it's just not part of GQ's reality. Good thing you've got The Beggar to tell it like it really is.
Judging by all the sizes still available, this Whitman herringbone sportcoat hasn't sold as well as J. Crew expected. But make no mistake, this handsome piece -- made with the finest Italian wool/nylon sourced from a family-owned mill situated deep in the hills of Tuscany -- would make a fine addition to any modern man's wardrobe, and for just $255, to boot.

It's worth a standalone post to note that the most sought after outerwear of the season -- designed by one Nigel Cabourn -- was just marked down by 40% at OpeningCeremony.com. These masterfully-conceived pieces still ain't cheap, but they're likely to last a lifetime or two.

Alright, we just confirmed that the Rag & Bone F/W sample sale kicks off Wednesday, 12/9, and runs through Sunday, 12/13. The official sale -- always well received -- is taking place at R&B's Christopher Street boutique, and will feature up to 70% off tons of present and past seasons' stock and samples. Not to be outdone, R&B's Soho outpost will be offering up to 50% off F/W stock, and a more mellow shopping experience.
This is too bizarre not to post. The active underwear boutique on Crosby Street belonging to '80s Swedish tennis sensation Björn Borg is hosting a moving sale featuring 50-70% off Borg-branded briefs and boxer-briefs. The distinctive specimens typically retail for upwards of $30. The store officially closes on December 15.
