Layering is big this season, along with vests and slender outerwear. Touching all three bases, GQ endorses this Land's End down vest for $30 coupled with Uniqlo's +J tweed sports jacket for $130. This pairing is smart for several reasons. Not only does it look great, but its versatility -- from the office to the bar to the Rangers game -- guarantees plenty of use. Also, each piece is made extremely well for its price, particularly the +J jacket, which we're praying will raise the bar for all "fast fashion."

i'd be fascinated to hear some feedback from folks that actually execute this look. seems like this combo either wouldn't be truly warm enough outside for extended periods, or you'd be roasting if you're popping in an out of buildings or commuting via bus or train. seems like it might be a bit easier to ditch the blazer vs. a full on coat on the bus or train though.
ReplyDeletewhat GQ failed to mention was that this endorsed tweed jacket sold out straight away over 6 wks ago, and they are not making any more.. i emailed them as i really, really wanted that jacket in a large... anyone seen any tweed's similar ?
ReplyDeleteFar Away, Can you confirm that Uniqlo isn't making anymore of these jackets? Where did you hear that? (If anyone's looking, we've seen several on Style Forum and eBay.)
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your interest in Uniqlo. At the present time we are sold out
on the Tweed Jacket. And unfortunately we will
not be restocking on this item. If you have any further questions please
feel free to contact us.
Once again thank you for your interest in Uniqlo.
Best Regards
... and really stupid on their part.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. That sucks.
ReplyDeleteYou are right TCB, big time mistake.. after the GQ video , everyone want's one ... guess it will get people in the shop though.. maybe that was the master plan ... i believe NY store only ever received 30.. gutted .. anyone have any alternatives ?
ReplyDeleteas noted, i've seen some on SF and sufu, but that's tended to be Uniqlo's mo. they get a single, usually large, shipment and sell through. once it's gone it's gone. It may annoy a few customers, but this has to be far better for them then having to discount a ton were these to flop. it surely won't be the exact same, but i'm sure they'll have something similar down the pike shortly.
ReplyDeletedidn't even know they had a tweed version only saw the flannel peak lapel blazer and the wool notch lapel blazer
ReplyDeleteChoosy,
ReplyDeletecan you please post the link to the GQ article?
thanks
It was actually featured in the GQ Rules video series. It's free, but you have to sign up for it. Can't link to it.
ReplyDeleteTry Uniqlo's UK site. Many of the +J line is available via e-commerce. I was one of those who got up early in the a.m. (yup, the farmer for the day) and napped Chesterfield and sportjackets in dark and light grey. It is impeccably made. At any price point. Rarely have I rec'd so many unsolicited compliments on garments. Can't wait to see what's on offer for spring...
ReplyDeleteA tweed +J jacket doesn't exist, unless this is something planned for a spring release. The closest thing I've seen is the Uniqlo Wool Herringbone Slim Fit jacket, which they currently have in stock.
