Tuesday and Wednesday, 8/4-8/5 (along with a private event, tonight, 8/3, which you might or might not be able to waltz right into), the Metropolitan Pavilion is hosting an Alexander McQueen sample sale featuring up to 80% off S/S '09 -- and previous seasons -- ready-to-wear, shoes, and accessories. Despite the economy and the month, we're betting that McQueen at 80% off will draw crowds.
Report from the field: "Most of the menswear is completely wearable including some great suits and blazers in 'normal' navys and grays. The shoes were an excellent deal as well and were actually kind of cool -- Picked up a pair for $170 (down from $815). The checkout line is a complete and utter disaster. If you go down there, plan to wait in the checkout line for 45 minutes."

I have an invite for tonight's private F&F preview...whats the likelihood that I can get past the list with it?
ReplyDeleteWish we could tell you, Anon, but absolutely let us know how it works out, what that scene looks like, etc.
ReplyDeleteAlexander McQueen's menswear is mostly hideous. They had it on Gilt Groupe a couple of months back. Lots of stuff that would fit right in to the International Male catalogue.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHA!! Whats wrong with International Male?
ReplyDeleteJust came from this. 80% off for all mens clothing and shoes.
ReplyDeletePOSITIVES: While probably only 15% of the total stock. Most of the menswear is completely wearable including some great suits and blazers in 'normal' navys and grays. The shoes were an excellent deal as well and were actually kind of cool. Some shoes I'd not seen in any of the big dept. stores. picked up a pair for $170 (down from $815).
NEGATIVES: There was only one and alas its a major one. The checkout line is a complete and utter disaster. If you go down there, plan to wait in the checkout line for 45 minutes. EASILY.
left at 6:30pm tonight. lots of RTW still available: sportcoats, trenches, shirts, knits... a few pairs of trousers (size 50-54 that i saw). sunglasses $80. ties all $40. wallets available for $100. there were probably 15-20 styles of shoes, many could pass for work, many sizes on the floor; prices were $750-850, with 80% off. the Puma collection was much more limited, but $250-300 with 80% off. the registers were fixed by the time i got there, though there was still a good 20min wait to pay. no lines to get in at all.
