Alterations

The New Year is right around the corner, which naturally has us reflecting back and looking forward. Since launching this summer, The Choosy Beggar has quickly established itself among tens of thousands of guys as a reliable resource for up-to-the-minute first-hand sale and deal information. For that, we have to thank all of you for reading; for contributing to our growing community; and for spreading the word about the unique service we provide. As for the future, we're very excited about the possibilities, but, to ensure we're moving in the right direction, we need you -- our dear readers -- to TELL US WHAT YOU'D LIKE FROM US. Additional services? A greater focus on particular areas? More of this? Less of that? Drop us a line and TELL US, so The Beggar can better serve you in 2009 and beyond.

  1. Thanks for your site and the work you do, it has become a part of my daily routine to check in. My only suggestion is to cut back and maybe just do a once-a-week coverage of the Gilt Sales. Most of them originate as sample sales in NYC, so Gilt sales are often just repeats. Happy Holidays!

  2. coverage of more sample sales, i.e. prices, deals, etc., and less of the Gilt stuff.

  3. Gilt stuff doesn't bother me. I'm a member, so it's redundant, but it can't' hurt.

Besides all the sample sale info, would love more posts like the one last week linking to stylists' favorite NYC tailors, cobblers, etc. I'm always trying to find the best place to get a leather bag repaired, a pair of jeans hemmed, or some boots resoled. No doubt you've got your own insight into the matter, and know more who do.

  4. I am a definite fan of this blog since I discovered it. First, a BIG thank you to TCB for hooking me up with good deals around the city and making me look hip at the same time :) My favorite part of the blog is when you report inside the sales themselves and take pictures of the available wares and thier prices - this has saved me time on so many occasions and really helps me narrow down which sales to visit and which to avoid. Another thing I like is when you advertise the WhereWhenWhat of Friends and Family sale which usually happens before the general public and gives us first dibs on the wares before its picked over.... RE: GIlt, I seriously don't think its that big of a deal.... Plus, this gives other people not living in NYC a chance to add some spice to thier closet without paying retail prices.

  5. I love the in-depth coverage of the sample sales. Like someone else mentioned, with pictures, rundowns of merch, quantity, and prices, you've saved me lots of time running around new york to these sales only to come out empty handed. you've also pointed me in the right direction many times!

i would suggest possibly focusing less on bergdof/extreme high end sales, just because i think that applies to and interests way less of us as well. gilt as well should be less focused on.

it's great when you have extremely fast and regular updates, which lets us readers beat people to the golden finds sometimes.

i think you guys should look into covering more online sales as well. that's one thing i wish i saw a little more of too.

  6. I've been a big fan for a couple months and check your site often. I wouldn't mind some more aggregation of all the sales i.e. a quick cheat sheet as in the list on the left with a map of all the sales to make weekend shopping easy.

  7. I also second the request for a quick cheat sheet to make planning a shopping spree easier. I actually would appreciate more online sales seeing as I'm not in NY and can only make it probably once a month so online sales help a lot. And another second for info on good tailors, cobblers, etc.
