Obedient Sons sample sale - 110 Greene St between Prince & Spring - Suite 306 - 12pm-6pm daily - Map
With this economy, it seems outrageous paying $45 for a t-shirt... especially if its from a "sample sale". I think I'm passing on this one - again.

Can't blame you, Anon
ReplyDeleteI went last Friday after making an appointment -- the whole thing was obviously hyped to be super-busy and thus requiring timed windows. Yeah, well, it wasn't.
ReplyDeleteThe clothes were fantastic, though. Breezy short suits with a burlap look but soft to the touch, classic denim shirts, boiled wool cardigans, and -- why not? -- smock shirts. O.S.'s spring show was my favorite of anyone's and the pieces up close didn't disappoint.
Unfortunately a number of pieces didn't even have listed pricing, and those that did were at unreasonable price points. I'm really sad this label is going out of business, but hey, we all want a deal. If they knocked another 25% or so off of these new costs I would definitely go back.
We don't normally encourage haggling, Charlie, but it's the end of the road for these guys, so you might respectfully propose something.
ReplyDeletethe acumen of charging $45 for tees at a sample sale in this emotional climate might shed light on what led to the (relatively) small following resulting in closing shop. that might seem off, since here in nyc they are so well known... but long term sustainability requires more than small market niches.
ReplyDelete$45 t-shirts and $125 at sample sale, even during the dot-com boom would be excessive.
ReplyDeleteRight now, it's insulting.
That said, maybe the prices are higher BECAUSE they're going out of business, and they have nothing to lose by starting high.
My guess is you'll see the leftover t-shirts for $15 in a month or two, so if you don't mind picking through the scraps...
