Note: Simply by virtue of its size, Barneys Warehouse Sale has always been an easy target for critics. This latest iteration, however, has many readers vowing to never visit the sale again. "It's really the same sh*t recycled sale after sale," says one. "Worst stuff I've seen in a long time," says another. "Really bad this time." These days, we're sure Barneys has bigger concerns than consumers' perception of its warehouse sale. Still, it obviously counts on the biannual events to recoup lost profits, and fewer shoppers makes that prospect less likely. Our advice? Get your sh*t together, Barneys Warehouse Sale!
Barneys Warehouse Sale - 255 W 17th St between 7th & 8th - 212-450-8400 - Weekdays 10am-9pm, Weekends 10am-7pm - Map
i thought this was some of the worst stuff i've seen in a long time.
ReplyDeleteIt's no worse than last year, mainly because it's the same stuff as last year. At the end of the last sale it was 60% off marked price. Now it's just marked price.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile my tailor had a fit about a Barney's private label suit just finally got around to bringing him. He said the collar was stitched completely wrong, and when I looked closer he was right. He's always found flaws with the Barney's private label stuff... stay away, it's not worth it, not even at 50% off!
Unfortunately this sale isn't run for people who read fashion blogs and take their stuff to an independent tailor. (Of course, the Barney's house tailor would never criticize their own-label garments.) I wouldn't expect anything earth-shattering as long as enough dumb tourists and NY newbies stream in.
Did you know Barneys Warehouse Sale is actually a full fledged division of Barneys? If you read news stories about Barneys, it will say Barneys has four divisions--Barneys New York, Barneys Co-Op, Barneys Outlet, and the Barneys Warehouse Sale. Its also relentlessly advertised on taxi tv to pull in the tourists. So it probably does pretty well. For those of us who aren't tourists, it is worth fishing around on a slow day in February, you might find something, perhaps a 'vintage' piece from ten years ago now back in style?
ReplyDeleteas mentioned last year, by me, the suits sold under the "house label" at the warehouse sale are NOT the same as those sold in the store. the ones at the warehouse sale are made in china, while those in the store are made in italy. this is a horrible bait and switch that barneys pulls on unsuspecting folks. i'm sure the problem is much more wide spread than the suits and jackets.
