Billy The King!

Here's some terrific news to close out the week. GQ just named Billy Reid the winner of its 2010 "Best New Menswear Designers in America" competition! Not that we were rooting against any of the nominees, but Reid's refined yet down-home aesthetic is filling a potentially fatal void in the heart of menswear. It's as grownup as it is playful; as civilized as it is free-spirited. The 'Bama-based brand can be summed-up in one word: Charm -- the importance of which us city-slickers are too quick to forget, and something which we can all use plenty more of! Bravo, Billy! Here's to you!

  1. Not only are the clothes fantastic, let it not be lost that Billy Reid has some seriously awesome sales. Not only do they have big markdowns, give away giftcards and have very helpful staff, they often serve booze and food at the store. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. All the best, Billy!

  2. Indeed, Anon, Reid's been equal parts accessible, inviting, and hospitable since reestablishing himself in NYC in late '08.

  3. Too bad he doesn't make anything for skinny people. Love his clothes but would never buy them for myself.

  4. On the other hand, thank god he doesn't only make clothes for skinny people. I have a very slightly muscular frame, but still haven't had the body type to fit clothes from APC, Band of Outsiders, Rag and Bone, Oliver Spencer, etc. since I was in my mid-20s (and couldn't really afford labels like that when I was that age).
