Alas, no picture-taking at the Patrick Ervell sample sale on Howard, adjacent to Opening Ceremony. We're told half of the stock, including most of Ervell's prized knits, sold out in the first hour. Still a nice mix of conceptual, faux-rust pieces from the runway along with highly-wearable, spring-appropriate "basics." We're talkin' unstructured fine-tweed blazers (40, 42) for $140; unstructured linen blazers (40) for $120; velvety "winter jeans" in khaki and navy (30, 32, 34) for $75; linen pants (30, 34) for $70; denim jackets (M) for $175; contrasting fabric shirts (M) for $75; black "raglan sleeve" button-downs (M, L) for $75; a handful of baby alpaca sweaters (L, XL) for $100; Dr. Martens (9, 10, 11) for $20; Clarks' wallabee's (10, 11) for $30; and a select few Common Projects lace-ups for $100. Cash Only.
Update: A reader reports that Ervell staff restocked on Saturday afternoon. "Plenty of pants in different styles in the 30/32/34 range (mostly 30 and 34) ... Some outwear at very reduced prices."

I would think twice before going to the Patrick Ervell sample sale today. Coming from someone who's gone for the past three years, this month's sale was not that great. Sure, the prices are significantly lower than usual, but the fit of their clothes this season is down right strange. I'm usually a 38/40R in Patrick Ervell, but I couldn't even button a size 42 today.
ReplyDeleteThe same for sweaters. Mediums were simply too tight - they didn't even fall below my belt. It's as if I grew the moment I stepped through the door.
On the other hand, the shoes were a straight up bargain (I left with a pair of Wallabees). Most likely, the only part of my body not affected by the growth spurt were my feet.
Also, I'm not sure the sale started at 12. I, along with a horde of other gentlemen came in at 11:50 and already there was a customer with a brown bag full of Patrick Ervell merch, filled to the brim. As far as I could tell, there were some very nice sweaters and shirts in there (at least some of the more tamer stuff from this collection).
Overall, best of luck to anyone going tomorrow, but I'd think twice (or at least call ahead to see what's left) before I left the house.
Hi Anon. See anything in bigger sizes? L and XL?
ReplyDeleteOne or two XL sweaters (but judging from Choosy's update, it seems most of them are gone).
ReplyDeleteA few large shirts scattered throughout (I'd say 4 tops from what I came across), but most of them were medium (on the smaller side).
The very friendly staff put out more stock this (Saturday) morning for the second day of the sale. There were two styles of classic, beautiful Ervell sweaters, one of the two styles in all sizes. Plenty of pants in different styles in the 30/32/34 range (mostly 30 and 34). Some outwear at very reduced prices. The studio is actually a very nice place and the staff are very pleasant. I wouldn't have expected anything less from Patrik Ervell, though, to be honest.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone got the grey linen canvas blazer from SS09 in size 38 and would like to sell for good money, please email me at fedexfelix(at)yahoo.com
